The German Wirehaired Pointer dogs originated in Germany and is thought to be a combination of Poodle, Foxhound, Terrier and the German Shorthaired Pointer. They were first registered by the American Kennel Association in 1959.

The German Wirehaired Pointer dogs  has a double almost waterproof coat. The outer coat is wiry and the inner coat has good insulation properties but is thinner in warmer months. They are average shedders and should be brushed about twice a week.

Brushing will help her maintain a clean and healthy coat, avoid mats and help you keep a closer eye on her health and strengthen your emotional bond with her. Additionally, she needs her dead outer hair plucked occasionally so a trip to a professional groomer every few months will help keep her looking good.

The German Wirehaired Pointer dogs  belongs to the European pointer dogs. There are records about the pointer dogs as well as the hunting dogs from Europe ever since the 13 the century. Today  German Pointer is an elegant and versatile hunter both in the water and on land. He is a specialist in bird hunting and is admired for his great personality.

The Wirehaired Pointer dogs however originates from the Pudel pointer, another mixed breed between the German Pudel and the English Pointer amongst others.

This Wirehaired Pointer dogs shows strong signs of separation anxiety and does not do well when left alone for long periods of time. These dogs are very devoted family pets, but they can at times be jealous. They make brilliant watch dogs and are also very protective of their owners and families. These dogs should be socialised when still young, as they tend to be wary of strangers later on.

They are most well behaved when they spend time with their family. They do best with older children. This breed likes to roam and their strong hunting instincts make them likely to chase cats and other fleeing creatures. The Wirehaired Pointer dogs is a faithful friend and thrives on human companionship but also can be very happy as an outside dog.
