Testing a Dog Temperament

The term temperament adverts to a dog’s general demeanor. In general, it’s much easier to predict a pure bred dog temperament than that of a combined breed. Ideally, you should meet both the sire and the dam of the litter you’re measuring. There are 3 kinds of dog temperament type:

1.      Dominant

If you see that your favorite breed of dog is dominant and you have children living in your home under the age of 8-10, wait until your children are older to get this breed. You also must consider your children’s temperament. The best owners for dominant breeds are confident leaders. This type of dog is able to be a leader for you, such as Labrador.

2.      Balanced

These breeds don’t covet the job of leader of the pack as much as the dominant breeds do. If you step in and fill the role of leader, these dogs will allow you to do so. You have to be a leader for your dog, if not you will be troubled.

3.      Submissive

These breeds have absolutely no desire to be the leader. They’ll readily accept anyone and everyone as holding a position higher than theirs in the pack. They are fit with children, since usually they are tame and not wild.

How to test your dog temperament? I will explained it o you

1. Check out all the dogs

You may be tempted to stop looking after seeing only a few, but you owe it to the dogs to see them all.

2. Find out how long they will be in the shelter

Dogs need at least two to three days to adjust to their new environment. New arrivals will probably still be searching for their owners. If they are still there for a week, you need to train them more.

3. Determine whether he is friendly

To find a friendly and sociable canine, use the “hand and talk” test used by animal behaviorists. First, put your hand out to see if the dog will sniff or lick it. Then talk to the dog. If the result if good, means they are easy to socialize with others.

4. Meet the dog in quite dog’s environment

This will test your dog temperament, ask the staff where you can visit quietly with the animal. To see if the dog is interested in people. Social dog will solicit your attention.

5. Testing if they are friendly with the child

It’s always a good sign when a dog goes to children first. In homes with children under 7 years of age, it’s important that the dog prefers the children to the adults. If the result of your dog temperament is good, they will socialize with child fast.
