GSP Dogs
As the name suggests the GSP dogs, also known as the German Shorthaired Pointer comes from Germany. Even though researchers do not have many details about the origin of this breed, the all concluded that the GSP dogs is a mixed breed that developed in time from mixing breeds like the Spanish Pointer, the Foxhound, the Bloodhound and other hunting dogs and later the English Pointer.
Sleek, graceful, and athletic the GSP dogs comes in a variety of colors. These color range from liver to orange and you can find GSP dogs with a number of varying patterns on their coats. They may also be lemon (shades of yellow commonly used to describe dogs) as well as black and chocolate brown. The various patterns on their coats are known as ticking and may range from small spots to large areas.
This is a powerful dogs that should cover some ground but without coarseness. They are by the standard 55-70 pounds and 23-25 inches in size. Proper bone is important – too heavy alters the picture while too light alters function.
As the GSP dogs is a large, active breed, the dogs can require quite a bit of food; however, they can also become obese if fed too much for individual activity levels. A healthy weight is that the last two ribs should be able to be felt under the coat and the dog should have a distinct and defined waist. Recommended feeding for the GSP dogs is one and a half to two and a half cans of high-quality meaty product with biscuit added in equal parts or five cupfuls of a complete, dry dog food.
They are great pets provided you give them ample attention, plenty of exercise, and freedom to play vigorously. Problems will arise if you keep them confined without adequate exercise. If you are planning on owning GSP dogs, be prepared to encourage him or her with plenty of daily activities and you will be rewarded with a loyal and trustworthy companion.
GSP dogs won Best in Show at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show and the first show where a GSP dogs participated was held in 1941 in Chicago.
