The German Short Haired Rescue (GSP Rescue) is an organizational tool for those who have the capacity to love their breed beyond the regard they hold for their own personal dogs. They have volunteered to assist German Shorthaired Pointers who need homes.

These dogs may be in shelters and pounds, from which they must be taken, given health care, reconditioned or trained and placed. The unwanted dog may also come directly from a home where circumstances have changed or the family is breaking up. In these cases, we help the family find an appropriate new home for the dog.

This German Short Haired rescue is an all volunteer, non-profit organization dedicated to placing unwanted and abandoned German Shorthaired Pointers into new homes. Rescue takes in adoptable dogs from area shelters and fosters them in volunteer foster homes. By fostering dogs in our homes we are able to save lives and provide the public with healthy spayed or neutered dogs.

The German Short Haired rescue finds homes for dogs through adoption events and postings on this website. They keep each dog for a minimum of two weeks in order to assess personality, temperament, and training needs. By doing this they are able to ensure that we place each dog in the most suitable home.

German Short Haired pointer (GSP) are not the breed for everyone. They certainly are not for the faint of heart or weak of spirit! They are a special breed with specific needs.

This dig also can be protective of their home and their humans. As a very social and human friendly breed, the GSP loves to be around people and activity, and handles this well, assuming it has been properly socialized.

To many GSP owners the most revered attribute of this breed certainly is the unwavering devotion and loyalty they bestow upon their human companions. They truly are a man’s best friend.
