German Short Hair Puppies – History

The breed was developed in Germany in the second half of the 19th century. It’s believed to be descended from the Spanish pointers. The German Shorthaired Pointer was developed as an all-around hunting dog and is proficient with many different types of game. In addition to its hunting abilities, the German short hair puppies were bred to be a good family pet, equally good with adults and children. German short hair puppies come between 1890 and 1920.

German Short Hair Puppies – physical characteristic

The German short hair puppies are clean-cut, lean, well-balanced, hunting dog with an elegantly chiseled head. The muzzle is long, but never pointed. The length of the muzzle should be the same as the length of the skull. Unlike the English Pointer, the occipital bone is not very conspicuous nor is there a pronounced stop. The almond-shaped eyes and nose are brown. The tail from German short hair puppies is customarily docked by 60% (the dog should be able to sit on his tail), and the dewclaws removed.

German short hair puppies are energetic, highly intelligent, and friendly. These dogs may be reserved with strangers but they are loyal, protective, devoted to their families, and eager to please their master. They love human company, hate being isolated, and love all family members, especially children. Because of their eagerness to please, they are not difficult to train.

German short hair puppies – exercise and training

Exercise is of paramount importance for these tireless energetic animals. They are more than a match for even the most active family and they should not be taken on as family pets unless they can be guaranteed plenty of vigorous exercise.

German short hair puppies – Grooming

The smooth coat of the German short hair puppies are very easy to groom. Just brush regularly with a firm bristle brush and bathe only when necessary. A rub with a piece of toweling or chamois will leave the coat gleaming. Beside, you should check their feet after do some training, especially for German short hair puppies. They can lives from 12-15 years.
