There is an incredible variety of dog breeds today, with new ones emerging every year. In fact, it’s estimated that there are around 800 breeds of dog, though only 150 of these are really widespread throughout the world.

Hunting dogs breeds, as their name suggests, are simply those dogs that have been bred – and trained – to assist human hunters in their activities. Originally, these dogs were responsible, at least partially, for bringing home the meat for the family’s dinner and, without them, the job of hunting was much more difficult. The dogs assist the human hunter to scent and track, retrieve, flush, point or even chase down game.

These breeds were created to aid during hunting. The category can be further divided into these subtypes: hounds (sighthounds and scenthounds), terriers (for vermin and small mammals), gun dogs (retrievers, flushing spaniels, pointing breeds) and cur type dogs (for boars and raccoons).

The hunting dogs breeds is known as a great companion. The Labrador Retriever, Golden Retriever, English Setter, Cocker Spaniel and Irish Setter are hunting dogs that need exercise. If you won’t be hunting with the dog, then they will need to have some space to roam. Smaller dogs, toy breeds, are fun dogs. These dogs are better suited for smaller locations. The Chihuahua, Poodle and Pug are some examples of the toy dog breed.

The hunting dogs breeds have a kind of inborn need to please their owner. It’s like a second nature. Usually hunting breeds are quick learners and are very eager to go hunting – naturally they’ve been bred to do that. But those dogs do need their trainer to be very consistent in the way he trains them. That training teaches the dogs to follow the hunter’s commands, and when at the end that dog knows exactly what the hunter wants it to do it will insure a plentiful and successful experience hunt after a hunt.

If you are looking for a hunting dogs breeds, you need to bear in mind, first, exactly which breed is best suited to your requirements. As a hunter, be sure to research each breed and talk to dog owners to find which will most closely match your needs. However, remember that you needn’t be a hunter to own one of these dogs – hunting dogs can make excellent, good-natured companions. If that is the case, simply make sure that the breed you choose fits in with your present – and projected lifestyle.
