The German Wire haired Pointer is a dog breed full of energy and requires a large amount of exercise to be able to burn it off. The best type of family for this dog breed is one that is very active and enjoys spending a large amount of time doing outdoor pursuits. However, if you are not a person who loves being outside and active, there are still many things you can do to keep your German Wire haired Pointer happy and well engaged. As a hunting breed, the dog is naturally obedient and with early positive reinforcement training, the dog can learn just about anything and will perform many tricks.

The breed is very popular in Europe and has the highest registration of pointing breeds of any gun dog in Germany. It is a hunt, point and retrieve gun dog of strong instincts and persistence, proving invaluable to the upland game hunter. This is a dog which is gaining in popularity in the United States.

The German Wire haired Pointer, a gun dog, is a breed heavily favored by huntsmen. Its ruggedness in retrieving and tracking game fowls make it an ideal companion even in rough terrain and weather. They have muscular limbs and long legs, obviously, built for running and agility. Their thick brows, beards and mustaches give them their distinctive handsome looks.

The German Wire haired Pointer is a very clever, lively and affectionate breed. They like to have a job to do, and without enough exercise they can become bored and difficult to handle. It is imperative for these dogs to be kept busy or to be occupied with outdoor activities.

However, German wire haired pointer does, as a youngster, require firm guidance.  All that vigour and intelligence needs to be channelled, but once ground rules are agreed he makes a highly honoring addition to the home. So that, having excellent and obedience wire haired pointer is a proud for its master.

They are good watch dogs and also do well with children and other pets, especially if they are well socialized when young. As a reminder, never leave children unsupervised with any puppy or dog.
